This event is a unique opportunity to learn and hear first-hand stories from Peter Sackaney, a survivor of St. Anne’s Residential School.

Participants will hear about Peter’s experiences and gain a deeper understanding of the impact of Indian Residential Schools.

Orange Shirt Giveaway (TODAY)

In honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Every Child Matters (September 30), we are making orange t-shirts available for staff.

Thank You for Completing Your Wake the Giant Training

We want to say thank you to all staff for taking the time to ensure that cultural safety is a priority within our organization.

To show our appreciation for your commitment, we will have a for two individuals to win two
tickets to this year’s Wake the Giant Music Festival. The draw is open to all those who have completed
their mandatory Wake the Giant Training.

If you have not completed the training, you still have a chance to enter. Complete your training
by end of day on September 2, and you will be included in the draw.

Temporary Road Closure, Golf Links Road Entrance (August 26-30)

Please be advised that the road entrance to the Hospital from Golf Links Road will be closed for emergency road repair beginning Monday, August 26, at 7:00 a.m. The work is expected to be completed by Friday, August 30, at 5:00 p.m.

During this time, vehicular access to the Hospital will be limited to the Oliver Road entrance only. Please note that additional time may be required when entering the Hospital property. Exits at both Oliver Road and Golf Links Road will remain open.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause as we work to maintain a safe environment.

Fundraiser for Appendix Cancer Awareness Month

This August, for Appendix Cancer Awareness Month, Hannah Deley will be working with Kate from Waxxed Candle Co. to raise money and awareness for young cancer patients here in Ontario. TOUGH LADY #DELEYSTRONG candles will be available for purchase throughout the month of August. 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to our Cancer Center at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC).💜

Hannah is a 25-year-old woman, who currently works as a Phlebotomist in the Laboratory here at TBRHSC. After months of abdominal scans, lab work, one laparoscopic surgery, and one colonoscopy, she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic appendiceal adenocarcinoma. October 28, 2023, is a day that she will never forget; the day she started her battle with this aggressive and rare form of cancer.

Hannah will be selling her candles on Thursday, August 23, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. across from Season’s Gift Shop inside of TBRHSC’s main lobby.

Repairing the Sacred Circle: Summer Training Sessions

Repairing the Sacred Circle: An Indigenous Cultural Awareness and Education Primer, will be held on the following days throughout July and August (1:00 – 4:00 p.m.):

This training is available for all staff (including Physicians, professional staff, students, residents, volunteers, and PFAs) to participate in.

This is a free training session, there is no cost to attend. The session is 3 hours long and takes place in-person,

The session will introduce participants to an insightful way of thinking about truth and reconciliation. It will be a reflective pathway for cross-cultural discussion and an entry point to create the necessary change for awareness and inclusiveness within TBRHSC. Participants will be introduced to concepts such as colonization, race and racism, common stereotypes, and how these contribute to health inequities for Indigenous Peoples within the current health care system.
