Franco-Ontarian Day (September 25)

Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC), joined by representatives from the Association des francophone du Nord-Ouest de l’Ontario (AFNOO) and Réseau du mieux-être francophone du Nord de l’Ontario (Réseau), recognized the rich Francophone culture in Northwestern Ontario by raising the Franco-Ontarian Day flag earlier today.

Franco-Ontarian Day officially recognizes the contribution of Ontario’s Francophone community to the cultural, historical, social, economic, and political life of the province. There are more than 622,000 Francophones and 1.5 million who can speak French, making Ontario the largest Francophone community outside of Quebec. September 25th marks the anniversary of the first raising of the Franco-Ontarian Flag in 1975.

Today, there are over 8,000 Francophones who call Northwestern Ontario home.

TBRHSC knows that providing care that is culturally sensitive can improve health outcomes and quality of care. Our goal is to meet the social, cultural and linguistic needs of all our patients. We are committed to ensuring that we are respectful and responsive to Francophone cultural preferences, needs and values, and all the other diverse populations we serve.

Update – Baxter Novum IQ Large Volume Pump

Shared on behalf of Chad Johnson, Acting VP Patient Experience, Chief Nursing Executive, Regional VP Regional Cancer Centre and Jennifer Wintermans, VP, Quality and Corporate Affairs

In follow-up to the memo circulated on September 15, 2023, please note that all Baxter Novum IQ Large Volume Pumps have now been inspected and preventive maintenance performed. For this reason, we are discontinuing the use of Buretrols when administrating high risk medication on the Baxter Novum IQ Large Volume Pump as a precautionary measure.

In addition, you will no longer be required to inspect the pumping mechanism valves prior to infusion as the preventative maintenance has resolved this issue.

Please note that all IV pumps that have completed preventative maintenance are identified with a bright pink sticker. If you locate an IV pump that does not have a bright pink sticker, please bring it to your Manager who will follow-up with the Biomedical Department.

Thank you everyone for your extra efforts and cooperation as the Leadership Team and the Baxter Team worked to resolve this issue. If you should have any questions about this memo or this situation, we ask that you please address them to your Manager.
