Black History Month

Often, the images we see during Black History Month are designed with red, black, green and yellow/gold.

These colours are part of the Pan-African flag (black, red, and green) and the Ethiopian flag (green, gold, and red). The colours used in Black History Month have meaning behind them and together symbolize the spirit of the Black community striving to create a society free of oppression.

  • Red represents the blood shed from slavery and oppression.
  • Black represents the resilient people whose existence as a nation.
  • Green represents the fertile lands of Africa.
  • Yellow/gold represents optimism, justice and equality for everyone.

UKG Dimensions Test Environment – Downtime

Shared on behalf of Michael Iorianni, Manager, Payroll and Accounting

I wanted to inform you all about the upcoming freeze on the UKG Test Environment (UAT). This is being done to allow the UKG team to create the production environment in preparation for our Go Live.

The freeze will start on Wednesday, February 7th at 6:00 PM EST and is expected to last for 3-5 business days.

While you may still be able to access and view the test environment during this time, I kindly request that you refrain from making any changes or modifications.

This precautionary measure is in place to minimize the potential risk of unwanted configuration and data being transferred to our production environment.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Maternity Centre Mondays

Heavy menstrual bleeding (or heavy periods) affects about 30% of women and can have a significant impact on quality of life.

In most cases, heavy flow and cramping make it harder to do day to day activities. In more serious cases, heavy periods can result in significant time off work or school which limits a person’s ability to earn money or get good grades. People with heavy menstrual bleeding can miss out on scholarship opportunities or chances at job promotions.

The team of gynecologists at TBRHSC specialize in diagnosing and treating heavy menstrual bleeding. They work in Thunder Bay as well as in smaller hospitals in the region and are continually working to improve coordination and access to care for patients across Northwestern Ontario.

Resident Awareness Week (February 5-9)

Each year thousands of medical students graduate and become resident physicians in Canada.

Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) is home to 75 Thunder Bay based residents in medical specialties such as Family Medicine, Orthopedics, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, General Surgery, Internal Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition, we hosted 156 elective residents in 2023 from other medical schools across Canada.

With Resident Awareness Week (February 5 – 9) upon us, we want to take the time to recognize the contributions of our residents.

Medical residents are integral members of the care team; they work many long hours and give years of their lives to providing exceptional care to their patients. They are committed learners, leaders and care providers.

For all they do, TBRHSC would like to recognize and thank our residents for their dedication, achievements and tremendous contributions to excellence in care across our organization.
