February Health and Wellness Challenge

Gratitude is the theme for February’s Health and Wellness challenge. Gratitude for others and for yourself are important and can help you to cope when life becomes difficult. Taking a moment within your day to write down or create a visual of what you are grateful for can help solidify positive feelings and reinforce healthy habits. What are you grateful for? How do you practice gratitude?

Each week, write down three things that you are grateful for. Share your favourite response with us to be included in the month end summary that will be shared on Informed. Your responses can be submitted to Haley.Shipston@tbh.net.

Tips from TBRHSC’s Paediatric Healthy Living Program

It’s time for this month’s tip from Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre’s Paediatric Healthy Living Program.

Building healthy family relationships takes time and effort. One way to build those relationships is to focus on family members’ individual strengths. Letting your children know that you recognize and admire a specific skill or quality you see in them, gives them a chance to reflect on that quality and build on it. While you do not need to overpraise your child’s achievements, recognizing what they do well will raise their self-esteem and confidence. It also builds trust between you and your child.

World Cancer Day (February 4)

World Cancer Day takes place every year on February 4th and is an initiative under which the world comes together to raise the profile of cancer in a positive and inspiring way.

This year’s theme “Close the Care Gap”, recognizes inequities in health that exist for many populations. It raises awareness about the lack of equity in cancer care and prompts action at every level to break down the barriers that exist for many people in accessing services and receiving the care they need.

This World Cancer Day, we recognize the power of working together. Every single one of us has the ability to make a difference, large or small, and together we can make real progress in reducing the global impact of cancer.

This World Cancer Day, what will you do to close the gap in cancer care?
