Today is Pink Shirt Day.
Pink Shirt Day was inspired by moments of kindness, empathy and understanding that can mean so much to children impacted by bullying. For bullied kids, it can be hard to know where to turn. But a helping and supportive hand can make a world of difference. Remember that whether it’s sending a check-in text, calling out bullying behaviour when you see it, or simply offering your support, there are so many ways we can all help and connect with people being bullied.
Wearing a pink shirt on this day symbolizes commitment to creating a workplace and community free of bullying. It is a simple yet powerful way to show your support for this cause. Let us all take a moment to reflect on the impact of our words and actions, and to consider how we can make a positive difference in the lives of those around us.
We ask that all staff members be aware of their behavior towards their colleagues and take action to prevent and stop any instances of bullying. Thank you for your cooperation and support in creating a safe and respectful workplace for everyone.
Let’s lift each other up this Pink Shirt Day, and all year round!

Following the February 15, 2023 memo regarding adding drivers to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (the Hospital’s) insurance policy, the Purchasing and Financial Services teams would like to remind leaders of the proper process for booking rental vehicles for staff when needed in the course of their work duties. The proper process for these bookings ensures that staff are covered by the Hospital’s insurance policy.
Process:
Staff personally booking a rental vehicle in their own name and requesting reimbursement from the Hospital is only by exception and when approved by their respective Vice President (VP). Staff personally booking their own rental vehicle are not covered by the Hospital’s insurance policy, but by their own personal insurance policy.
If you have any questions on the above process, please contact Brian Cassidy, Manager, Procurement and Strategic Sourcing, at brian.cassidy@tbh.net.
In anticipation of our upcoming Employee Recognition Week (ERW) 2023, we are shining a spotlight on some of our supporters. Today we are featuring our friends at Co-operators, who has partnered with TBRHSC for eight years, offering staff great rates on home and auto insurance through the Affinity List.
Find the full Affinity List here.

Please be aware that the Linda Buchan Centre will be under renovation starting Tuesday, February 21. Please be cautious in the Ultrasound area as there will be increased traffic and reduced space in the corridors. The work is expected to be completed by the end of March.
If you have any questions you can contact Adrienne Kromm at extension 7030 or Adrienne.Kromm@tbh.net.
Access to menstrual products is essential to upholding sexual and reproductive health and rights in Canada. Students at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University (NOSMU) are hoping to raise funds to purchase menstrual pads for Muskrat Dam Lake First Nation, a fly-in, Indigenous community, 900 km north of Thunder Bay. The 120 people of reproductive age who are living in this remote area need your assistance with combating period poverty, the inadequate access to menstrual hygiene products.
They are halfway to their goal of $5100, and with your support, each person will receive a menstrual kit, containing five reusable, eco-friendly menstrual pads handmade from local Canadian businesses.
Please consider donating on their GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/menstrual-product-drive-muskrat-dam

Further work will continue to proceed in order to facilitate the expansion of the A2 Parking Lot towards Golf Links Road. This work will involve the use of heavy equipment within the cleared area from Wednesday, February 22 to Friday, February 24.
Access to the main entrance adjacent to the A2 parking lot (Donald Caddo Drive) may be constricted for a short duration while the equipment is being unloaded/loaded. The contractor is required to conduct the work in a safe manner, however, please take extra caution during the construction period to ensure everyone’s safety.
Please direct any questions or concerns to Capital Planning – Your cooperation and patience is greatly appreciated!
