Tips from TBRHSC’s Paediatric Healthy Living Program

Did you know? The Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines recommend that children and youth (age 5-17) get 60 minutes per day of moderate to vigorous physical activity? Source: CSEP Guidelines

Tips to increase physical activity:

  • Count your steps! Gradually increase step count to avoid a sedentary lifestyle achieving >6,000 steps per day.
  • Find fun activities you enjoy.
  • Participate in gym class.
  • Explore after school programming available in your community.
  • When sitting for prolonged periods, make sure to take a quick movement break after every 30-60 minutes
  • Take the stairs.
  • Participate in physical activity with friends and family, consider taking a walk or going for a bike ride together.
