Please be advised that a Hospital-wide emergency fan-out drill is scheduled for Thursday April 27, 2023 at 1800 hrs (6:00pm). All areas are required to test their emergency fan-out list in accordance with Emergency Fan-Out (EMER-110). The purpose of the spring fan-out drill is to test, evaluate, and improve the procedure for contacting staff in the event of an after-hours emergency. This exercise will increase staff familiarization with the emergency notification process, as well as aid in validating that contact information is current and procedures are effective.
Drill overview:
- Switchboard will instruct all departments to activate their fan-out lists via overhead announcement.
- Departments not in operation will be contacted via the after-hours notification process.
- All calls must clearly state: “This call is to test the Hospital fan-out. You are not required to report to the hospital.”
- When contacted, staff will be asked: “If this was a real emergency, would you be available in 0-1 hours, 2-4 hours, or 4-8 hours?”
- Should a real incident occur, the drill will cease. “NO DUFF” will be used to indicate a real emergency.
Action: Keep a copy of your fan-out list in an easily accessible location in the event that you are required to contact additional personnel (this does not have to be a hard copy, but must be stored in a confidential format).
How do I access my department’s fan-out list?
- Fan-out lists should be filed in departmental emergency code binders for on-site access.
- All staff should keep a copy of this list for their own reference (printed hard-copy or digital file/picture on phone).
- Contact your manager if you do not have a 2023 version of the Fan-out list.
Notes:
- Vendors/Contractors will not be participating.
- No staff pooling or additional codes are included as part of the drill.
