Retirements in Diagnostic Imaging

Shared on behalf of Peter Myllymaa, Vice President, Operations, Clinical & Support Services & CFO

Please be advised that Craig Willson, Manager of Diagnostic Imaging – CT, Mammography, General & Interventional Radiology & X-Ray Safety Officer, and Sandra Willson, Manager of Diagnostic Imaging – MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine & Clerical & Radiation Safety Officer, have both advised me of their upcoming retirements from Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (the Hospital), with their last days of work being June 28, 2024.

Sandra was first hired as a Nuclear Medicine Registered Technologist at the Hospital in August 2001. Prior to this, she worked as a Registered Technologist, Senior Technologist and Charge Technologist in Nuclear Medicine at Hamilton Health Sciences. Sandra moved into a Senior Technologist role at the Hospital in November 2004, then into a Charge Technologist role in June 2005 until becoming permanent Manager is Diagnostic Imaging in August 2015.

Sandra leads with a coaching mindset, instilling learning and positive change in her staff. She became a Certified Coach for the Hospital in 2018, furthering her passion and strength in mentoring others and helping them to grow personally and professionally. Sandra is especially proud of her staff and the multiple committees and projects she has collaborated on, always offering her knowledge and expertise.  Sandra has been nominated for multiple “Walk the Talk” awards (now iCare awards) throughout her career at the Hospital.

Craig began his career as a Clerk in Diagnostic Imaging at McKellar Hospital in September 1987. He moved into a Registered Technologist role in February 1988, holding various positions until moving into a full-time position. He became the Charge Technologist in CT in September 2005 until becoming permanent Manager in Diagnostic Imaging in August 2015.

Craig leads by example, focusing on collaboration, teamwork and safety, and always ensuring that the patient is first. Craig is especially proud of his staff for their dedication and determination in positive patient experiences. Craig has been instrumental in numerous committees and projects, providing his knowledge and experience with a joke and a smile.

Craig and Sandra’s dedication, enthusiasm and leadership will be missed. We wish them all the best in their retirements. I want to personally thank both Craig and Sandra for the knowledge they bring to the job and for their ongoing dedication to quality patient care.

Further communication on an interim plan for Diagnostic Imaging leadership will follow.
