Paediatric Emergency Transport Team Expo (TODAY)

On Thursday, February 13, in Auditorium A & B (3rd Level) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. we are hosting an exposition celebrating a significant milestone in the development of our Paediatric Emergency Transport Team (PETT) and the completion of their training.

After over a year of intense preparation, the team has officially started performing patient transfers, providing an invaluable service to children across Northwestern Ontario.

The Paediatric Emergency Transport Team is comprised of a Registered Nurse and a Registered Respiratory Therapist who work in tandem with ORNGE to safely retrieve ill children, primarily under the age of one, and transport them to a higher level of care. These transfers are essential for providing timely access to advanced medical services, either at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre or, when necessary, at a specialized tertiary children’s hospital.

This newly established program is a groundbreaking achievement for the region. As the first paediatric transport team of its kind not based within a children’s hospital, it will drastically reduce the time it takes to transport ill children. With the completion of this extensive training and certification, the team will soon be available 24/7 to respond to emergency transport needs throughout Northwestern Ontario, ensuring that ill children receive the care they need without delay, and providing a greater sense of hope and security for families in our region. This achievement marks a major step forward in paediatric emergency services for Northwestern Ontario, and we are incredibly proud of our team’s dedication, expertise, and commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of children across Northwestern Ontario.

Please join us for some snacks and refreshments to celebrate this success, meet our team members, learn more about our role and community partners. We look forward to seeing you!
