Successful Allied Health Preceptor Workshop

In partnership with NOSM University (NOSM U), Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre conducted a full-day Allied Health Preceptor Workshop on May 1, 2024. The purpose of this workshop was to support preceptorship and ensure that health professionals feel prepared to support students throughout the organization.

NOSM U presented four topics from their preceptor development series. Topics ranged from dealing with a struggling learner to providing effective feedback.

This in-person event was the first since COVID-19 and brought together various professionals across the hospital. More than 20 disciplines attended the day’s sessions with fifty-nine attendees.  Though the material is available for viewing online at any time, (see link below) the workshop gave a rare opportunity to have various disciplines network with peers and contribute to the advancement of preceptorship in healthcare education.

Feedback from staff was very positive and the Interprofessional Education Team will look to partner with NOSM U again. One participant stated, “…I loved that we had people from many disciplines, I feel that it really added to the breadth of knowledge that came together today.”

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event a hit! If you wish to access NOSM U’s preceptor development series online, click the following link: https://www.nosm.ca/education/rehabilitation-studies/resources/self-directed-preceptor-development-series/
