Roots to Harvest’s Tomato Sales: TODAY, 11am-1pm

Roots to Harvest is back selling their popular tomato plants at our Hospital. On Thursday, June 2nd from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, three types of tomato plants will be for sale in the courtyard outside of the cafeteria. These plants always sell out fast so don’t miss your opportunity to not only add to your garden, but also to support a great organization.

What: Selling three types of tomato plants; $5.00 each, or 3 plants for $13.00

When: Thursday, June 2nd from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

Why: All proceeds supporting Roots to Harvest programming


Three varieties of tomato plants available:

Sub-Arctic Plenty: Early tomato suitable for northern climates. Sub-Arctic Plenty produces an abundance of 2-3” tomatoes, on a strong determinate plant. Early fruiting and more cold tolerant than most tomatoes.

Tiny Tim: A very early growing, bush type cherry tomato perfect for patios, containers, and small gardens. Great flavor and abundant fruit grow on this small, 15” plant.

Mystery Keeper: A long storage tomato that can last several months. Medium size fruit that ripens from the inside out and are slightly more acidic than other tomatoes.

Emergency Medicine Day (May 27)

May 27th is recognized as Emergency Medicine Day. Today we celebrate the specialty of Emergency Medicine, and we salute all the amazing people that work in our Emergency Department, and those across the world. These dedicated health care professionals are always there to provide emergency care for us no matter the circumstances. Thank you for your commitment to caring for patients, their families, and the community.

Last day for May 50/50 Ticket Sales – Jackpot already almost $550,000

It’s the last day to purchase tickets for the May Thunder Bay 50/50 Draw, and the jackpot is nearly $550,000. The Grand Prize Draw is happening tomorrow, Friday, May 27, and another huge payout is expected.

“With the May jackpot, we’ll have awarded over $12 Million in prizes since the Thunder Bay 50/50 started last year, and once again, I look forward to calling the lucky winner at 11:00 am tomorrow,” says Glenn Craig, President and CEO of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. “We’ve had Grand Prize and Early Bird winners from across Northwestern Ontario, and who have purchased all different ticket packages, so I’m excited to see who will win tomorrow’s jackpot!”

All proceeds from the Thunder Bay 50/50 go towards equipment purchases and upgrades at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, and across its regional programs. Equipment has been purchased for different departments such as the Operating Room, Emergency Department, ICU, Labour and Delivery, and Diagnostic Imaging. Equipment ranges from small items like IV pumps to larger things like surgical tables and even a 3T MRI Scanner that is currently on its way to our Hospital. Some of the equipment funded is listed at www.healthsciencesfoundation.ca/5050impact, and will be updated as new equipment arrives at our Hospital.

The grand prize draw is happening on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. ET, ticket sales close at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022. Tickets are available online only at www.thunderbay5050.ca.

Planned Fire System and Overhead Paging System Outage: TODAY @ 11:30 PM

Please be advised that Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (at the 980 Oliver Road location only) will execute a planned impairment of its entire Fire System and Overhead Paging System on May 26, 2022 for approximately two to four hours – starting at 11:30 PM to facilitate the upgrade of the system.

Our Facilities and Security teams will be enacting and overseeing our Fire System Impairment and Fire Watch procedures, as included in our Fire Plan for our site.
