Join us for the 1st Annual Teaching and Learning Week, where you will find expos and presentations showcasing the extensive education, research and innovation that takes place within our Hospital and Health Research Institute. Teaching and Learning Week – Schedule of Events

Monday February 3

Professional Development Expo – Staff will have an opportunity to network and learn how they can expand their professional development portfolio. Light breakfast provided.

Afternoon Roaming with the College of Nurses of Ontario – Touring the Inpatient and Outpatient departments, specific to nursing, to share information about the College of Nurses of Ontario Quality Assurance Program. Brochures and pamphlets provided to staff.

Tuesday February 4

Hello Midday Innovation – This event will highlight innovations from Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute that have made a difference in the lives of patients, families and staff.

Wednesday February 5

A Journey Through the Health Care System – An interactive and engaging opportunity for health care professionals to understand the patient’s journey through the health care system, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. Light breakfast provided.

Ibn Sina Simulation Lab Open House – A demonstration of the ongoing learning that is made possible through the use of simulation will take place in the Ibn Sina Simulation Lab. There will be hands-on activities that will highlight various skills, tasks and interdisciplinary collaboration. This will be facilitated on a drop-in basis. Lunch provided.

Thursday February 6

Research Expo – Staff will have an opportunity to network and learn about the ongoing research taking place at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute. Light breakfast provided.

R.E.F.S Party – An opportunity to join the CNS/IPE/PPL/NRT team in celebrating the one-year anniversary of the R.E.F.S initiative. There will be games and chances to win prizes. Cupcakes and light refreshments provided.

Friday February 7

Preceptor Appreciation Expo – An opportunity demonstrate gratitude for all teachers at TBRHSC and engage with experts to enhance staff’s teaching and learning strategies.

Afternoon Trivia, Roaming with the Jeopardy Wheel – An opportunity to engage with staff in asking trivia questions about preceptoring.

Good Midday Innovation (TODAY)

This event will bring like-minded, curious, and creative people together, in order to encourage collaboration and help put their ideas in motion.

Nominated staff will present and share their innovations with their colleagues. The goal of the event is to highlight outstanding innovation occurring throughout the organization and promote a culture of innovative thinking for all staff.

Come for lunch and leave with an understanding of the exceptional initiatives going on at work around you.

Anishinaabe & Indigenous Ethical Guidelines in Community-Based Research (January 24)

Presenter Bio:

Mkomose – Andrew Judge, PhD – is an Anishinaabe scholar, educator,  and knowledge keeper who focuses on Anishinaabe and Indigenous knowledge systems, land-based education, and environmental stewardship. He is of Anishinaabe and Irish descent and has dedicated much of his nearly two decade long career to reviving traditional ecological knowledge and fostering deeper connections between people and the natural world.

Lakehead Thunderwolves Women’s Volleyball – Think Pink Game (January 25)

Lakehead University’s Thunderwolves Women’s Volleyball team will host their annual Think Pink Game this Saturday, January 25! This game is in support of the Northern Cancer Fund for breast cancer care.

These games have raised substantial funds over the years, all of which stay in our community to ensure exceptional breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Fans are encouraged to bring extra cash to participate in fun activities and pick up special merchandise to support this meaningful cause.
