Our Hospital is doing its part to reduce harmful plastic waste. As of Thursday, May 13th, our Hospital will begin to eliminate plastic straws and move to the more environmentally friendly paper ones in an effort to protect the environment. This initiative will be trialed on units 3A, 3B, and 3C for the next two months.
Some area’s of our Hospital still require plastic straws but the main bulk of our straw use, will move to paper should the trial be successful.
Each year, our Hospital uses close to 200,000 plastic straws. It’s time to make a change to keep plastic out of our lakes and landfill.
This positive move to paper straws is thanks our Product Evaluation Committee, who take into account green technology as part of our product selection. A special thanks to EcoSuperior and the Port Arthur Rotary for donating the paper straws to our Hospital for this pilot.
