Medical Lead, Cardiovascular Surgery (CVS) Implementation

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Vivek Rao to the position of Medical Lead, Cardiovascular Surgery (CVS) Implementation.

Dr. Rao is a well-known expert in heart failure surgery and holds the position of Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre (PMCC). In addition, he also serves as the Surgical Director for the Mechanical Circulatory Support program. Dr. Rao earned his medical and surgical training at the University of Toronto, showcasing his strong educational background and expertise in the field. He currently holds the Munk Chair in Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics at the PMCC. Additionally, he is a Senior Scientist in the Division of Experimental Therapeutics at the Toronto General Research Institute.

As the CVS Program Implementation Lead Dr. Rao will provide oversight, direction and leadership to the Cardiovascular Surgery project and the related expansion of services to ensure progressive development and implementation of all aspects of the project where required.

Dr. Rao will be responsible for defining recruitment, training and orientation needs, establishing and upholding expected surgical standards of care for the new program, as well as supporting and guiding clinical operational readiness in line with the standards of the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre (PMCC) at UHN.
