Valerie is an extraordinary nurse with a passion and vision for her patients. She goes above and beyone, and treats all patients and their families with dignity and respect while delivering exceptional care to them all. We frequently receive compliments from patients and their families regarding the care they have received from Valerie.
Deborah Moroz, RPN, Surgical Day Care
Deborah has established a reputation in her 30 year career as a very competent nurse who treats her patients with respect and dignity. Blessed with a generous sense of humour, combined with a natural empathy for her patients, Deborah ensures that her patients have the most positive experience possible while under her care.
Maria Palo, RPN, Transitional Care Unit
Maria is the nurse on the unit who drives forward kindness, compassion, and knowledge to her fellow peers and everyone she encounters. Maria is committed to her work, and above all else, is a team player and a team creator. Her contributions as a unit lead and preceptor within the department is her technical role, but how she does her technical role is what adds to the staff experience. Maria is the unit mentor, lead, and a go-to resource for all new staff and students. It is not one specific story, but instead the mountains of moments that contribute to this award. It is daily leadership that Maria demonstrates each and everyday.
Staff Experience Award
Antonio Paladino, RN, Emergency Department
Anthony successfully fulfilled a temporary role as Process Improvement Coordinator for the ED and completed numerous strategies to improve patient care as well as the flow of patients in the department. Anthony has now returned back to front line patient care as a Flow Nurse in the ED where he will be utilizing many of the strategies he championed to develop. He is reflective in his practice and always strive to improve his performance and that of the ED team. His co-workers appreciate his hard work and ability to adapt in any situation and the patients are fortunate to experience his compassion and empathy. Anthony also maintains his role as the co-chair of the ED workplace violence task force.
Chief Nursing Executive Award
Mary Ironside, RPN, 2A Medicine Inpatient Unit
Mary has been a RPN at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre since 2014. She currently works on the 2A Medicine Inpatient Unit where she is a skilled and compassionate nurse and a strong advocate for her fellow nursing colleagues. Mary always brings a valuable perspective to the table and her genuine interest in creating a supportive environment for staff is obvious, and appreciated.
